As we stated in earlier communications, the Society filed for conciliation with the Minister of Labour in the hopes that a government appointed conciliation officer can help bridge the difference in bargaining between the two parties. The Society has always been a proponent of the use of expert, independent mediators to help facilitate the negotiation of a new collective agreement when an impasse is reached.
Unfortunately a conciliator is not available until June 24. Due to the lengthy wait for a conciliator the Society reached out to the employer seeking new bargaining dates in the meantime. To date the employer agreed to one day of bargaining where little progress was made. At the time of publication the employer has not reached out to us requesting any additional dates prior to conciliation.
